Sanlian Life Weekly marked the fifth anniversary of the suicide of a Taiwanese novelist Lin Yi-Han whose book is believed to be a fictionalization of her own traumatic experiences. Their article mentions other books having an important cultural effect for women, and I’m honored that the Chinese translation of my book Jane Doe January is there. The article author writes (via Google Translate) “Female creators form a circle hand in hand, talking to each other, cheering, and writing about the unspeakable and hidden pains in life. When they write themselves as the main body, it is not only a review of the wound, but also the beginning of realizing the vastness of the world. Through writing, they present the surrounding society from their own perspective and integrate their voices into the river of the times.” |
